Nat in Viet nam!!!
Am officially on vacation this week and next. We decided to go to Vietnam for some cheap holidays. First off, i'm absolutely stunned by how many tourists there are from all over... And here I was thinking that it would be a real adventure and because, once you do China, you're prepared for almost everything, I thought I'd have to use these newly developped skills! Well, not to oversimplify things, but it's all quite tame I guess... We spent two days in Hanoi and another two up in the mountains in a village called Sapa. There are several Montagnards who live there and the women and girls try to sell you all sorts of handicraft and costumes. As I'm clicking away at a cyber cafe without the cafe, I can't yet post pictures but I will when I get back to China...
Right now, we're killing time waiting for the 2100hrs train out of this mountain town. We will sleep overnight on the train and share our room two other travellers... The train is quite comfortable and falling asleep to the chug-a-lug of the locomotive is a nice way to travel. It sure beats the motorbike honking in Hanoi's Old Quarters. You know how I complain about the lousy driving in China? Well, I'm gonna complain about the motorbikes here. They are all over - houndreds zipping through narrow winding streets and honking ! Ah! It's enough to drive you mad! And if you make eye contact with a guy standing by his parked bike, he'll ask you: hondamoto? That's a cheap way to travel around town on the back of his bike. We travelled to some ethnic villages on hondamoto. It's nice but not something i'd do with a heavy packsack on. And hugging some skinny local from behind isn't my description of a real fun time if you catch my drift!
Well, that's it for now... I'm off to catch the train... next stop HoiAn!
