Dream Team

Some of the crew members are die hard football (soccer) fans and they probably play in a Garage league back home. A few weeks back, we played a friendly game on the beach: office against crew and it wasn’t even an even match when we had one more player on our team. Word got out that the self-proclaimed Dream Team was in-action and it didn’t take long before we were offered a challenge against the yard. So there we were, one warm Saturday afternoon in a playground ready for the match-up. The field was a sandy-rubbly-stoney-bad weedy terrain that spelled disaster for my knees and legs. There they were, all dressed-up in UK team World Cup jerseys complete with cleats and shin protectors. Here we were a bunch of uncoordinated, shaggy looking amateurs. Although the firsts half was even enough, we were massacred in the second half. Admittedly, 1.5 hours is definitely too long a match-up for a bunch of inactive farts who had no bench substitutes. The Yard team had about 30 players constantly rotating. And above all, they supplied referee and linesmen ~ just slightly bias I must add… 3-1 was the final score. Not surprisingly, coverage of this game did make it to the local newspaper.
